We are looking for the best young poets and poems out there.
Choose to write a poem about one of the given stimuli: New Starts, Loss, The Natural World,
or, submit one about a subject of your choosing.
Our competitions give writers the opportunity for their poems to be professionally published and recorded in audio.
Categories
There are three age groups:
- Key Stage 2 (approx. 6 to 11 years old / Years 3 to 6)
- Key Stage 3 (approx. 12 to 14 years old / Years 7 to 9)
- Key stage 4 / Sixth Form (approx. 15 to 18 years old / Year 10 to 13).
The Prize
The winners and the shortlisted entries from each age group will be published in our 2024 Poetry Anthology, which will be available as both a print book - paperback and hardcover - and an eBook. In additional to this, they will also be recorded and made available as an audiobooks, published and on all major platforms, including Kindle, Apple Books, etc.
This means that your work will be professionally published, meaning you will be able to hold a printed copy of your poem in your hands (or on your Kindle!), and proudly call yourself a published poet.
Who Can Enter?
Any UK based writer can enter, provided that at the deadline date of March 3rd 2024, they are 18 years old or younger.
The only stipulations are that the poem that you enter cannot have been previously published, either in print format or on a website / blog. Work that has won or been placed in another competition also cannot be entered.
You must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter, and they will need to upload the work.
Fee
There is a £2.50 admin fee to enter the competition. This supports the processing and reading of entries, and can be paid via PayPal via the link below or from the link on the entry page.
Submitting an entry implies an acceptance of our completion rules, and if any of the rules are not adhered to you may be disqualified.
There is no limit on the length of your poem, although we are looking for quality rather than quantity, and the length of your submission will not determine your possibilities of success.
The style and form of your poem is completely up to you, and it can either be a response to one of out three stimuli: New Starts, Loss, The Natural World, or it can be submitted as an open choice and be about a subject of your own choosing.
There is no limit to the number of submissions that you can make, you could enter poems in response to each stimuli for instance, although you will need to pay the admin fee for each entry.
You should ensure that you follow all of the format criteria listed below:
The author retains the copyright for their entry, but Junoberry Books has unrestricted rights to publish the shortlisted work and extracts from the work in their published anthology of poems (print, eBook and audiobook) and any promotional material that is relevant to this.
The decision of the judges is final. Unfortunately no individual correspondence can be entered into and Judges cannot comment on individual entries. All poems are read anonymously and therefore judging is unbiased.
The deadline for entries is midnight on March 3rd 2024.
No entries timestamped after this will be accepted.
All shortlisted poets will be notified by email by the end of March 2024, and published on our website shortly afterwards.
Please check through the list of FAQs to support your entry and answer any questions that you might have.

No, work must be original and solely the creation of the person making the entry.
You can still submit work if you have previously entered this, or another competition with us. We highly recommend that if you are resubmitting work that you should take the time to redraft your entry to stand a greater chance of success.
No, only work that is unpublished may be entered.
